West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026: Street Closures, Bag Rules and Visitor Guide

West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026 on Santa Monica Boulevard

The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026 returns on Saturday, October 31, for one of the city’s biggest nights of the year.

The free event runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. along Santa Monica Boulevard. The main event area stretches from North Doheny Drive to North La Cienega Boulevard.

Thousands of costumed visitors are expected to fill the boulevard. A main stage near North San Vicente Boulevard will feature a live DJ set. Food trucks and Halloween events at nearby businesses will add to the night.

However, Carnaval night works very differently from a normal Saturday in West Hollywood. Major roads will close hours before the event begins. Several parking facilities will also be unavailable.

The City has also announced strict rules for bags, alcohol, weapons, fireworks, and drones.

This guide explains the current 2026 event details, the most important street closures, and how to plan a West Hollywood Halloween night without creating unnecessary transportation stress.

What to Know About West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026

Halloween Carnaval takes place Saturday, October 31, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is free.

The event uses about one mile of Santa Monica Boulevard. The official boundaries run between North Doheny Drive on the west and North La Cienega Boulevard on the east.

This stretch passes through one of West Hollywood’s busiest nightlife areas. Restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, hotels, and other businesses also plan their own Halloween activity around the main event.

Because of the crowds, the City strongly discourages bringing children and pets to Carnaval. Families looking for a calmer event should consider other West Hollywood Halloween programs instead.

The Main Event Runs Along Historic Route 66

Santa Monica Boulevard is more than the location of the party. This part of the boulevard is also part of historic Route 66.

That gives the event a setting that already plays a major role in West Hollywood culture. The boulevard connects nightlife, restaurants, local businesses, public spaces, and several of the city’s best-known intersections.

The central stage will be near Santa Monica Boulevard and North San Vicente Boulevard. The City says the stage will feature a live DJ set.

Food trucks will also operate during the event. Nearby businesses may offer their own Halloween programs, so the celebration can extend beyond the official street event.

Doheny to La Cienega Is the Core Carnaval Zone

The easiest way to understand the event is to think of Santa Monica Boulevard as one long pedestrian celebration.

Doheny Drive forms the western end of the official Carnaval route. La Cienega Boulevard forms the eastern end.

San Vicente Boulevard sits near the center and becomes one of the busiest parts of the event because of the stage and nearby nightlife.

Visitors do not need to walk from one end to the other. Pick one section and let the night develop from there.

If you are interested in the history of the boulevard itself, read our West Hollywood Route 66 Centennial guide. It explains how Santa Monica Boulevard fits into the larger Route 66 story during the highway’s 100th anniversary year.

Comfortable shoes are also a smart choice. The event covers a large area, and normal curbside drop-offs may not be available close to the Carnaval because of street closures.

Bag, Alcohol and Safety Rules Are Stricter Than a Normal Night Out

The City has announced several important safety rules for Halloween Carnaval.

Backpacks, camera cases, tote bags, and similar bags are not permitted. Clear plastic bags are allowed under the current event guidance.

That means visitors should avoid arriving with a normal backpack and expecting to carry it through the event.

Public drinking and alcohol are also prohibited inside the Carnaval street area. Nearby licensed businesses may serve alcohol under their normal rules, but that does not make public drinking on the boulevard legal.

Weapons, fireworks, and drones are not allowed.

The City and West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station also ask attendees to report suspicious activity.

Keep costumes practical too. A costume that blocks your vision or makes walking difficult can become uncomfortable in a dense crowd.

Carry only what you need. A phone, identification, payment method, and a few small essentials will usually be easier than bringing extra belongings.

Street Closures Will Begin Long Before 6 P.M.

One of the biggest planning mistakes would be arriving by car at 5:30 p.m. and expecting normal Santa Monica Boulevard access.

Several closures begin early Saturday morning. Major closures start by 10 a.m., while side streets can close even earlier.

Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and North Doheny Drive must be fully closed to vehicles by noon so crews can prepare the event area.

Parts of Santa Monica Boulevard east of La Cienega are also affected.

North San Vicente Boulevard, Robertson Boulevard, La Peer Drive, Almont Drive, and sections of La Cienega Boulevard have their own event-day restrictions.

Parking Garages and West Hollywood Park Will Also Be Affected

Do not build your plan around parking at West Hollywood Park.

The West Hollywood Park Five-Story Parking Structure will be closed throughout October 31. It is scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. on November 1.

The Library Garage will close at 5 a.m. on October 31 and remain closed until 7 a.m. the next morning.

West Hollywood Park itself will also close from midnight at the start of October 31 until 7 a.m. on November 1. The dog parks and basketball courts will close during the same period.

Residential permit parking restrictions are scheduled to be lifted citywide from 11 a.m. on October 31 until noon on November 1. However, that does not guarantee that a legal space will be easy to find.

Always read temporary signs before leaving a vehicle. Halloween traffic controls may override conditions you remember from a normal weekend.

Visitors who normally use shared scooters or e-bikes should also remember that West Hollywood introduced new designated parking requirements in 2026. Our West Hollywood e-bike and e-scooter rules guide explains how the current parking system works.

How to Plan a Better Halloween Night in West Hollywood

The best strategy is to treat transportation as part of the event rather than something to solve after you arrive.

Driving directly into the Carnaval area will not be practical once closures are in place.

The City currently lists several Metro bus lines that normally connect with West Hollywood, including Lines 4, 10, 30/330, 105, 212/312, 217, and 218.

However, event-day street closures can change bus routes and stop locations. The City’s current Halloween page says additional transportation information is still coming.

Check the final City and Metro service alerts close to October 31 instead of saving a route several weeks in advance.

Build the Evening Around One Part of WeHo Instead of Constantly Moving

Santa Monica Boulevard street closure before West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval

Halloween Carnaval already provides more activity than most people can experience in one night.

Choose a section of Santa Monica Boulevard as your base. Walk the event from there and avoid repeatedly trying to cross the city.

If dinner matters, eat before the crowds reach their peak. A reservation before 6 p.m. can make the evening much easier.

Our West Hollywood restaurants and food trends guide can help you choose a dining area. The guide covers how Santa Monica Boulevard, the Design District, and other parts of WeHo create different types of nights out.

Nightlife visitors can also continue toward Sunset Boulevard before or after the event if transportation and operating hours make sense.

Our Sunset Strip 2026 guide covers the newer hotels, restaurants, bars, retail, music, and entertainment shaping that corridor.

Do not assume every business will follow its normal Saturday schedule on Halloween. Special events, reservations, cover charges, private functions, or capacity limits may apply.

Check Final Transportation and Closure Details Before Leaving Home

Start with the official City Halloween page on October 31. Look for any last-minute transportation changes or revised closure times.

Then check Metro if public transit forms part of your trip.

If you use a rideshare, choose a pickup and drop-off point outside the closed boulevard rather than trying to reach the middle of the event.

Agree on a meeting point before separating from friends. Mobile service can become less reliable when thousands of people use the same area at once.

Wear shoes that can handle several hours of walking. Bring only an allowed bag, if you need one at all.

Make sure everyone in the group understands where the event ends and how they plan to get home.

The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval 2026 offers a very different experience from a normal night in WeHo. Santa Monica Boulevard becomes a large pedestrian celebration filled with costumes, music, food, and nightlife.

The key date is Saturday, October 31. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., but road and parking impacts begin much earlier.

Plan around the closures instead of fighting them. Keep your belongings small. Follow the City’s bag and safety rules. Choose one part of the event rather than trying to cover every block.

Most importantly, check the newest transportation information before leaving. The City has already published the core road closures and event rules, but additional transit details are still expected.
